Holy Week

Posted by roquesa on March 7, 2010 at 3:08 AM Comments comments (0)

The entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week

(Latin: Hebdomas Sancta or Hebdomas Maior, "Greater Week"; Greek: Μεγάλη Εβδομάδα) in Christianity is the last week of Lent and the week before Easter. It includes the religious holidays of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday) and Good Friday, and lasts from Palm Sunday (or in the Eastern, Lazarus Saturday) until but not including Easter Sunday, as Easter Sunday is the first day of the new season of The Great Fifty Days. It commemorates the last week of the earthly life of Jesus Christ culminating in his crucifixion on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter Sunday.

March is Fire Prevention Month

Posted by tumulakclan on February 28, 2010 at 8:18 PM Comments comments (0)

As such, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) provided the following home and life-saving tips to everyone:

  • Put phone numbers of your nearest fire department near your phone.
  • Eliminate fire hazards through good housekeeping: dispose waste paper, rubbish and other flammable materials regularly.
  • Keep matches out of children’s reach.
  • Oil or gas lamps and candles should be placed away from curtains. Do not light them near windows, fans or where children or pets may topple them. Put out the flame before going to bed.
  • Do not keep flammable materials like gasoline, alcohol and paint inside the house.
  • Regularly check your electrical installations, and have all frayed wirings and electrical fixtures changed or repaired by a licensed electrician.
  • Do not overload electrical circuits by putting additional lights and appliances.
  • Blown fuses should not be replaced with coins, wires or any other metal.
  • Never leave a lighted cigarette/cigar/pipe unattended. This may fall on flammable materials.
  • Keep a first-aid kit handy.

I hope these tips will help you in the long run. Remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Cary "The Prince" Bullos is one of the top mixed martial arts(MMA) fighter in Cebu,Philippines. He was born on August 9, 1983.He has participated in most major MMA events in the country including Ground and Pound, Only the Strong Survives, Ultimate Fights and, just recently Ultimate Reality Combat Championships. All of his wins were seized before the 1st round ends via knockout or submission.

Early Life on Martial Arts

Cary started young in his martial arts life. At the age of 8 years old, he started practicing Tae Kwon Do and has participated in martial arts competitions since then. When he turned 15 years old, he started the rigorous art of Muay Thai and at the same time, also learned the Oriental Art of Judo. He then competed and won in various Full Contact Fighting Competitions.

With the advent of Mixed Martial Arts Events in the Philippines, Cary has then turned his eye in learning the fascinating art by combining his hard strikes with grappling techniques into his game. He was 19 years old then.

The Prince of MMA

Upon learning Mixed Martial Arts, Cary "The Prince" has trained in various teams, but the main source of his fighting knowledge has been his elder brother, Lyndel Bullos, who is also his trainer, coach and manager.

He has participated in major Mixed Martial Arts events in Cebu including Ground and Pound, Only the Strong Survives, Ultimate Fights, and just recently joined the country's most prestigious MMA event and promoter Ultimate Reality Combat Championships.

Cary has the fast and heavy fists, hard-hitting kicks and sheer strength that he employs to hoist his opponent up in the air before slamming them into the canvas to end most of his bouts on ground and pound tactics. But those opponents who under estimated his submission game had to learn the hard truth after being choked out or joint manipulated sending his message that he does have more submission techniques up in his sleeves.bbvcbvc

Conquering URCC

URCC or The Ultimate Reality Combat Championships is the first and top MMA event in the country. It has been promoting MMA in the Philippines by seeking out MMA talents of various styles and pitting them to find out the better fighter. It was when URCC came to Cebu that they came upon Cary.

Cary got his first match in URCC(URCC Cebu) against Elijah Siyam of Bacolod City.He literally destroyed him by heavy punches from the mount position after escaping a near armbar.

His second fight was held at Manila where he faced Freddie Magada, a Freestyle fighter from Manila. The fight didn't last long after a high kick by Cary caused a large gash on his opponent's temple. This fight became URCC's fastest knockout ending at 16 seconds.

The second URCC Cebu, "Visayan Pride" was held in Waterfront Cebu. He was pitted against Republic Gym's Tony Donaire. Again, the match ended at round one after tapping out from the heavy punches delivered from back-side control.

At URCC XII, Cary went against Arnel Arancina, a Blow-by-blow Boxing Champion and an MMA figher from Gym Kata. The stand up chess match was exhilirating and superb. After hurling knees, elbows, back kicks and every striking arsenal, a big right hand brought Arancina down. Cary getting a rear mount, finished off the fight via rear-naked choke, his second submission win.

The first loss Cary suffered was a rear naked choke to Lino "The Terminator" Tagacay, former URCC Bantamwweight champion, when they met at the main event of URCC Cebu 3.

With his discipline in training, determination in winning and wit in the ring, Cary has the right tools to succeed in his goal of claiming the reputable titles within his 60-kilogram weight class.

He also leads his own MMA club called Sel Def which aims in creating future MMA fighters such as himself.

SELF DEFENSE MIXED MARTIAL ARTS CLUB

Posted by dakote on January 22, 2010 at 2:34 AM Comments comments (0)

The SELF DEFENSE MIXED MARTIAL ARTS CLUB exists to teach and promote Mixed Martial Arts among interested individuals for self defense and/or for competitive tournaments while fostering courage, discipline and camaraderie among its practitioners.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport utilizing the mixture of traditional martial arts which has led to a wide variety of fighting techniques being used by modern MMA competitors. The techniques utilized in mixed martial arts competition generally fall into two categories: striking techniques (such as kicks, knees and punches) and grappling techniques (such as clinch holds, pinning holds, submission holds, sweeps, takedowns and throws).

Though mixed martial arts is basically competitive sport oriented, it is, by all means, an effective system of self-defense since training and live sparring hones the practioner's agility, instinct, knowledge and skills in unarmed combat. It has also one of the best fitness benefits since rigorous conditioning exercises in MMA increases ones endurance, strength and overall physique and health.

The chief instructor, Cary "The Prince" Bullos, is one of the top MMA fighters in the country, competing in the nation's most presitigous MMA promoter, the URCC or the Ultimate Reality Combat Championship, having a record of 11-1-0, winning most of his matches in the first round via knockout or submission.

SELDEF teaches all the basic MMA aspects, including Kickboxing, Submission Grappling and everything in between. For self defense purposes, SELDEF also teaches the native art of arnis/eskrima and the Sel Def stick. The Club caters martial arts enthusiasts of all ages and of any gender. There is a children's class(for 11 years old and below) and an adult's class for both men and women.

The Self Defense Mixed Martial Arts Club Gym is located at Tumulak Village, New Sangi Road, Lapu-lapu City, Cebu, Philippines, 6015. You can reach us at any of these numbers 09278596570 or 09235428970. Or send your email to [email protected] .

URCC Cebu V " Deliverance "

On January 15, 2010

URCC Cebu V "Deliverance" will kick off the year with an excellent fight card. Featuring local and international MMA fighters. Tom Woodfin from the UK will face off with Iran's Razi Jabbari. Also headlining the card is Cebu's local star Engi Piloto versus Richie Redman of Iloilo, this match up will be a classic striking match, these two fighters showcases excellent stand up game. And in the Main event is Cebu's Prince, Cary Bullos versus Arie Zarco of Manila. Bullos coming from a loss in his last outing versus Tagacay, will try to regain his winning streak this 2010. On the other hand, Zarco is quite similar with Tagacay's fighting style, as both fighters were pro-boxers.
