Posted by dakote on October 8, 2014 at 7:05 PM Comments comments (0)

Finally! a fight for Cary "the prince" Tumulak Bullos in ONEFC (One Fighting Championship) in Singapore on November 7, 2014.

This will be Cary's debut in ONEFC fighting an American in Major Overall,

Major Overall hails from the United States of America. He is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt currently riding a three-fight winning streak. Overall possesses slick submissions and unorthodox striking skills, making him one of the most exciting mixed martial artists currently on the ONE FC roster. He is faced with a difficult challenge in Cary Bullos, who only has one loss in his career thus far.

Impressive stats eh but look what Cary have,

Cary Bullos is the URCC Visayas Bantamweight Champion. He has finished all of his opponents in his seven victories, making him one of the top mixed martial artists in the world. Bullos has been raring to bring his skills into the ONE FC cage and will finally get the opportunity when he takes on Major Overall.

Hope Cary can overcome this challenge he have and move on to next level of competitiion with those higher ranked fighters.

Good Luck Cary, Tumulak Clan is supporting you.

ONE FC adds 5 elite fighters to its roster

24 Mar 2014

ONE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP™ BOLSTERS ITS RANKS AGAIN WITH FIVE ELITE SIGNINGS

UNDEFEATED BRITISH HEAVYWEIGHT CHI LEWIS PARRY, BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPION JI XIAN, HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION IGOR SUBORA, FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION CARY BULLOS, AND TOP INDONESIAN STAR YOHAN MULIA LEGOWO JOINS ONE FC’S ROSTER

24 March 2014 – Singapore: ONE Fighting Championship™, Asia’s largest mixed martial arts organization with a 90% market share, has bolstered its talent-rich roster with a series of signings of champions from around the world. England’s Chi Lewis Parry, China’s Ji Xian, Ukraine’s Igor Subora, the Philippines’ Cary Bullos and Indonesia’s Yohan Mulia Legowo have all agreed to exclusive contracts with ONE FC, and will be making their respective debuts at a later date.

Chi Lewis Parry is the current Heavyweight champion in the United Kingdom who has amassed an undefeated record of five wins and no losses. Parry stands at a towering height of two meters and prior to competing in mixed martial arts, was a professional basketball player in the British Basketball League. He boasts the longest reach in the ONE FC Heavyweight division and will look to use that advantage to propel him to victory in the ONE FC cage.

China’s Ji Xian has demonstrated that he can defeat most of the Bantamweight fighters in Asia, having earned a championship belt while competing in the now-defunct Legend FC. All 11 of his wins have come via submission, a testament to Ji Xian’s grappling prowess. He now gets an opportunity to test himself against tougher competition as he joins arguably the most talented division in ONE FC. The Bantamweight division currently boasts names such as Japanese MMA veteran Masakatsu Ueda, Filipino striking prodigy Kevin Belingon, Korean MMA star Soo Chul Kim and ONE FC Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano Fernandes.

Igor Subora, who also joins ONE FC’s Heavyweight ranks, is the former URCC Heavyweight Champion. The Ukrainian is trained in the combat sport of Sambo and has been unstoppable since coming to Asia. He is riding a five-fight winning streak and will be eager to demonstrate his Sambo skills as he takes a step up in competition and faces the best Heavyweights in the world.

Cary Bullos is one of the top mixed martial artists in the Philippines and the URCC Bantamweight Champion. He has been involved in martial arts since he was eight, competing in Muay Thai and Judo before turning his attention to the fastest growing sport in the world. He began his professional mixed martial arts career in 2006 and has won seven of his eight professional bouts with all of his wins coming by finishes, proving what an exciting fighter he can be.

Yohan Mulia Legowo grew up in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia, and was exposed to all forms of martial arts from a young age. Since nine, Legowo has been committed to learning all the various forms of martial arts in the world and would take his time mastering each one before gradually progressing to the next. He eventually began to compete, earning accolades in Kickboxing, Sanda, and Submission Grappling. Like many Indonesian mixed martial artists, Legowo also had a sustained run in the now-defunct TPIFC from 2002 to 2004, including a contest against Fransino Tirta, another recent signing by ONE FC. His career stalled in 2007, when he suffered a broken arm. Although doctors told him his career was over, he resiliently fought back, recuperating intensely before finally being able to return to mixed martial arts action in 2010. Since then, he has been determined to make up for lost time and has not looked back since.

ONE FC’s next event, titled ONE FC: RISE OF HEROES, will take place at the 20,000-capacity Mall of Asia Arena on 2 May, and will feature a ONE FC Bantamweight World Championship title bout between reigning and defending world champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes and Japanese contender and ONE FC Bantamweight Grand Prix winner Masakatsu Ueda.

Grupo Nopo, a pride of Lapu-Lapu City

news from MACTAN POST

As drug addiction become a big burden of society, a group in “Opon” (old name of Lapu-Lapu City) found an alternative way of keeping themselves busy. Members choose longboarding as their addiction rather than drugs.

Grupo Nopo’s logo and theme “spreading longboarding”.

Grupo Nopo takes inspiration from “grupo” which means group and “nopo” which means “Opon” but spelled backwards. It is a group of longboarders known internationally; it is composed of youth and adults that are purely from Lapu-Lapu City. Their mission is to promote and develop boarding sports (longboarding) in the city and cultivate camaraderie not only among those who play longboard but also to those who want to be part of the sport.

In their own way, they are helping government lessen drug addiction by encouraging the youth against gangs or fraternities and into physical and mental discipline.

With the group’s efforts and achievements, Mactan Island was recognized by foreign competitors as a Longboard Island of the world. The group gave pride not only to the city of Lapu-Lapu but to the country as well. Dandoy “Double D” Tongco, one of Grupo Nopo’s pioneer members, achieved many prestigious titles in the sport, locally and internationally.

As for the group, its greatest wish is to have smooth roads and a specified area for longboarding practice or a skate park in the city.

Lapu-Lapu pride downs Japanese foe in just 39 seconds in URCC Cebu 8

Like lightning in a bottle, Cary “The Prince” Bullos, attacked swiftly and with certain force as he knocked out Japanese fighter Hideo “Death From Tokyo” Morikawa in just 39 seconds during the main event of the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) Cebu 8 fight card named “Survival” at the packed J Centre Convention Hall in Mandaue City.

Although his URCC Visayas bantamweight crown was not at stake, the pride of Lapu-Lapu fought like it as he forced Morikawa to the corner with powerful kicks. There, Bullos caught his opponent with a thunderous superman punch that sent the latter to the canvas and prompted the referee to halt the fight.

Afterwards, Bullos was in a celebratory mood together with his teammates.

“I really aimed for an impressive fight and I’m glad I did it. I owe it to my training team and sparring partners, all the hard work paid off.”

The celebration was well-deserved for the SelDef MMA squad as Bullos’ teammate, Jimmy “The Silencer” Yabo, pulled off a win via knockout against Lorde Rey Tamit of Python’s Pit in the waning moments of the opening round.

In arguably what was the most entertaining fight of the night, the two engaged in a spirited brawl that was ended emphatically by Yabo, when he connected on a right hook that took the fight out of Yamit.

The Cebuanos domination of the main fight cards was completed by Yaw Yan Ardigma and DefTac Cebu’s Vaugh “The Spawn” Donaire, who displayed his technical know-how on the ground when he locked in a beautiful armbar that forced his opponent, Allan Atup, to tap out early in the first round, thus keeping his mixed martial arts record spotless.

Ironman @ Lapu-lapu City

Lapu-Lapu ready to host biggest Ironman tilt in PH

Manila—Lapu-Lapu City promised to roll out the red carpet for the 4,000 expected participants and guests of the 2012 Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines which will start and end at the Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa on Aug. 5.

Of the 4,000, some 1,700 foreign bets from 31 countries will be competing in the race which will cover 1.9 kilometers of swimming, 90 kilometers of biking and 21 kilometers of running.

The race will feature the professional, Filipino elite and the age-group categories.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza announced during yesterday’s event launch at the Makati Shangri-La that the city will host a street party on the night of Aug. 5 to celebrate the success of the event.

Radaza said that a portion of a major road near the city hall will be closed for the planned party wherein several stages will be put up with live bands playing.

“We will have a repeat of our Rampada, a Rio-inspired street dancing held every April. We have done it last year and this year. We named it Kadaugan Street Party in celebration of Lapu-Lapu’s victory over Magellan,” said Radaza.

During the race itself, the city will station several vintas which will carry cheerers with drums along the Hilutungan Channel to cheer on the swimmers.

Wilfred Uytengsu, president of the Sunrise Events, Inc. which organizes the race, said this will serve as the race’s community involvement, a part of the event which participants have appreciated in previous stagings of the Cobra Ironman.

Uytengsu said that he will not miss competing in the event because of the several “firsts” that it features foremost of which is it being held in Cebu.

CEBU IS READY

In its previous three editions, Camarines Sur had hosted the race while Cebu Province will host the event for the next three years starting this year. The event has gathered the world’s top triathletes such as Pete Jacobs, David Dellow, Terrenzo Bozzone, Belinda Granger, Amanda Stevens, Ali Fitch, among others.

Gov. Gwen Garcia assured that Cebu is very much prepared to host such a prestigious event. She said that she had been holding weekly meetings with the involved local government units. Aside from Lapu-Lapu, Cebu City and Talisay City will also have a part in the event as the bike course will cover these areas.

This is also the first time that the swim event of the Cobra Ironman will be held in an ocean—the waters off Shangri-La Mactan. Uytengsu said that for him, this is the biggest improvement of the race.

For the first time also since its staging, the race gathered the most number of participants, which relates to an increase of 50 percent from last year.

When the race opened its registration online early this year, it sold out in 40 days with 350 in the waiting list.

This will also be the first time that the Cobra Ironman will be ushered in by the Ironkids which has gathered 150 local participants.

World-renowned designer Kenneth Cobonpue will also be designing the trophies and medals for the event as well as for the next stagings of the race.

Providing job opportunities tops Metro Gaisano's goals

Posted by dakote on July 9, 2012 at 2:45 AM Comments comments (0)

By Grace Melanie I. Lacamiento (The Freeman) Updated July 05, 2012 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines - A major player in the retail industry is set to build another retail establishment in one of the key cities in Cebu while aiming to generate employment opportunities and contribute to the economic growth of the area.

Owned and operated by VICSAL Development Corporation, the Metro Department Store and Supermarket situated along Mantawe Road in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City kicked off construction yesterday with Dakay Construction.

Metro Gaisano Retail Group Chief Operating Officer Eduardo Ponce said during the groundbreaking ceremonies yesterday that the “exciting store” intends to serve the residents in the city not only through a complete shopping experience but through the creation of livelihood and job opportunities.

“In a retail organization, there’s always that advantage to have the community to work with you. This is a store for the community but bigger than a neighborhood store,” he stated.

He added that the new store set in a “strategic” location is a hybrid and a compact version of a department store and supermarket offering the right products and services with the right amenities.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, on the other hand, said that the soon-to-be-opened Metro store will serve as another landmark in the city, contributing to its socio-economic growth.

“It has always been the vision of Lapu-Lapu City to be the leading haven of tourism and investment. We take pride and we are grateful for being recognized to be included in its (Metro’s) expansion, turning the wheels of progress and sustainable development,” she said.

Expected to open by April of next year, the Metro Gaisano’s 13th store has a total area of 7,000 square meters including the leasing area.

Meanwhile, Ponce further revealed that there would be another three stores to be opened in Cebu within this year as part of the company’s expansion program.

He also noted that the 12th store located in Alabang Town Center, Muntinlupa City will be a full-scale supermarket and an anchor store in the area which will be set to open in August.

He cited that this has been part of the company’s vision to bring the “Cebu” store to Luzon area.

Other Metro stores include Metro Colon, Super Metro Mandaue, Metro Ayala Center, Metro Market Naga, and Metro Plaza in Toledo in Cebu; Metro Hi-per in Maasin, Leyte; Metro Legazpi in Bicol; Metro Lucena in Quezon; Metro Market! Market! in Taguig; Metro Marquee in Angeles, Pampanga; and Metro Market Binondo in Binondo, Manila.

Its retail offerings consist of grocery, apparel, jewelry, accessories, appliances, furniture, food outlets, and pharmacy. (FREEMAN)

Megaworld transfers Eastwood concept to Mactan Island

Posted by dakote on July 9, 2012 at 2:40 AM Comments comments (0)

By: Connie E. Fernandez
Inquirer Visayas

11:35 pm | Saturday, June 30th, 2012

8 NEWTON Boulevard: The first mixed-use condominium complex to rise in Mactan Newtown in Cebu.

CEBU CITY—A new “town” is rising on Mactan Island, Cebu.

Mactan Newtown, a commercial mixed-use complex on a 16-hectare property in Brgy. Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City, is the biggest project in the Visayas of giant property developer Megaworld Corp.

It will be home to luxury residential condominiums, BPO offices, retail shops, entertainment and leisure establishments, a wellness facility and a boutique hotel.

Noli D. Hernandez, Megaworld first vice president for sales and marketing, said in a a recent briefing here that the company intends to bring the Eastwood City experience to Mactan island, a major tourist destination that is known for its beaches and resorts.

Eastwood City in Libis, Quezon City is considered the country’s first IT park and Megaworld’s first masterplanned township development, Megaworld said in a statement.

It features 17 high-rise residential towers, 10 office buildings and 65,000 square meters of retail space.

“We started the live-work-play concept with Eastwood,” said Hernandez, “We will duplicate what we have done in Libis and make it better here in Mactan.”

Megaworld is one of the country’s leading residential condominium developers and providers of business process outsourcing offices.

Aside from Eastwood, its projects include McKinley Hill in Taguig City and Newport City in Pasay City.

Development of Mactan Newtown has started.

A five-story BPO-ready building called One World Center was completed in May, said Virgilio Carsido Jr., Megaworld vice president Visayas operations.

Construction of another five-story BPO-ready building called Two World Center will start this month. Both buildings will have retail components.

The developer also made sure that pedestrian lanes are wide to encourage walking, said Carsido.

Hernandez also said that Megaworld will put up a terminal for public utility vehicles and is negotiating with the Lapu-Lapu city government for the widening of roads leading to Mactan Newtown.

Mactan Newtown will also host 8 Newtown Boulevard, which will house four residential towers with a total of 716 units. The company said construction started in January and it will be completed in three years.

Three of these towers have been blocked off for young Japanese retirees, said Maricor Manlangit, Megaworld first vice president strategic planning division.

She said the other tower with 180 units is allotted for the local market. Each unit, which have an average floor area of 40 to 50 square meters, will cost from P4 million to P5 million at P100,000 per sqm.

Megaworld also plans to put up another cluster of four condominium towers and a BPO building called One Pacific Residences.

She said the three towers will have a total of 537 units. Like the 8 Newtown Boulevard, Manlangit said two of these towers have been blocked off for the Japanese retirees while the other is for the local market.

At least P10 billion will be poured into the Mactan Newtown project, which will be completed in five years.

Megaworld expects to generate about 40,000 jobs for the 25,000 office and BPO seats that the developer will build inside the township.

It will also boost tourism in Lapu-Lapu as Megaworld intends to make Mactan Newtown the new destination on the island with its retail shops as well as entertainment and leisure amenities.

Megaworld bought the 16-hectare property near Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa in 1995 since at that time, Cebu was enjoying a boom in the real estate industry.

Development on the property was put on hold, however, due to the Asian economic crisis in 1997.

Hernandez said Megaworld started land development in 2007 and constructed its first BPO building.

He said Megaworld decided to resume development because a study on the Cebu market showed a boom in the real estate industry given the “good takeup of units,” said Manlangit.

“You can actually see that with all the condominium buildings being constructed here now and the number of independent developers getting into the market,” she said.

“Our entry here is a matter of timing and now is the best time to be doing something big here,” Hernandez said.

I was the United Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years, and have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters.

The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under its desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene -- unnecessary.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them - NOT under them. This space is what I call the 'triangle of life'. The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the 'triangles' you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building.

TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY

1) Most everyone who simply 'ducks and covers' when building collapse are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a bed, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different 'moment of frequency' (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get near the outer walls of buildings or outside of them if possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

'We are but angels with one wing, it takes two to fly'

In 1996 we made a film, which proved my survival methodology to be correct. The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul, University of Istanbul Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific test. We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten mannequins did 'duck and cover,' and ten mannequins I used in my 'triangle of life' survival method. After the simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and document the results. The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under directly observable, scientific conditions , relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck and cover.

There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using my method of the 'triangle of life.' This film has been seen by millions of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen in the USA , Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.
